NDIS LANDSCAPE

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) has changed the way services are delivered across Australia.
The NDIS Early Childhood Early Intervention (ECEI) pathway is for children 0 – 9 years of age.
These services are delivered by ECEI partners. In our region the partners are Mission Australia and NDIS Remote Services.
Through short to medium term interventions the partners build community connections and capacity to include and understand the needs of children with additional needs, promote inclusion within the community and provide information and assistance to families and mainstream services.

For children requiring longer term intervention, an access request to ensure the child meets the NDIS eligibility criteria will be completed by the partners in consultation with the families.

Once access is meet an individual NDIS plan will be developed by the partners in consultation with the families and forwarded to National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) for approval and allocation of funds to address the needs identified in the plan .

Children 0- 6 years of age do not need a formal diagnosis.

If your child is 9 and over, you will work with a Local Area Coordinator. In our area the partners are Social Futures.

Children over 7 years of age require a formal diagnosis.

Once your plan is approved and activated, you make contact with service providers to discuss and agree upon service delivery and programs.

Orana Early Childhood Intervention offers a range of services through NDIS funding and our experienced team would be happy to discuss this with you at any time.

As a registered NDIS provider for children twelve years and under, families can purchase the following services from OECI with their NDIS funding

  • Early Intervention supports for early childhood

  • Therapeutic Supports

  • Communication and information equipment

  • Participation in community social and civic activities

Parents choosing OECI as their preferred provider will sign a service agreement identifying the agreed terms as detailed in the service agreement.

FAQ

What is the NDIS?

The NDIS provides supports and funding to individual people with disability giving greater choice over the supports you may need, where you receive them from and when to they can be received. These include: becoming more independent, learning to make choices and being part of family and community life.

What is an NDIS Plan

An NDIS Plan aims to identify your child’s development goals for the year ahead in relation to their eligibility for funding. An NDIS Planning meeting takes place with the Early Childhood Early Intervention or Local Area Coordinator partners who assist with planning and plan development.

How long does my NDIS Plan last?

Your child’s first NDIS plan will be in place for 12 months, and before the plan finishes you will meet with your NDIS representative to talk about how you child has progressed and plan new goals for the future. Each plan will be different. OECI staff engaged in service delivery are willing to provide a report to support the development of a new plan as identified and if requested and within capacity may attend the review meeting.

Who can help me understand our NDIS Plan?

If you choose OECI as your provider we can meet with you and guide you through the plan, your funding and how it can be spent – all these decisions are yours to make but we’re also here to assist you.

Can we change our NDIS Plan?

There are several avenues for appeal or plan review if you don’t believe your plan fits your needs or if a change or circumstance occurs before your 12 month review. You will need to make contact with the partners and NDIA.

Are there ranges of funding, based on type of disability?

At the initial meeting with the ECEI partners you will be asked many questions. One set of questions is called the PEDI-CAT. It is a functional assessment for your child, and will give scores in a number of categories. This information will give NDIA a broad range of funding, based on others with similar conditions. However, it is important to know that each child is individual and has unique needs and circumstances, and because of this, no two plans will be the same.

What is the best way to manage my child’s NDIS funds?

There are several ways you can manage your child’s NDIS funds. You can manage your child’s funds

  • Self manage where family pays the provider for agreed services – invoice provided from the provider
  • NDIA managed – registered providers (OECI), claim directly from the individuals plan based on active service bookings
  • Plan managed plan manager will make claims and pay providers on behalf of the family for agreed services

You can have a combination of payment options. You may also be able to change management options during your plan, if you change your mind.
