OECI is lead for the NSW Department of Educations Western NSW Sector Capacity Building team from July 2022 collaborating with Aruma, BECIS (Bathurst) ODEEP (Orange) and ASPECT to deliver services to Western NSW with more than 70 preschools.

The Sector Capacity Building (SCB) Program delivers support to NSW Community preschools to assist with strategies to enhance inclusive practice for all children. Preschools are selected by the Department of Education and allocated to a provider.

The Western NSW team are currently working across the region with Preschools to deliver customised services for each individual preschool to meet their needs.

As an SCB provider we are working towards four(4) key objectives:

  • Increase their capacity to include children with disability and additional needs on the same basis as their peers.

  • Increase their capacity to provide specialised transition to school supports for children with disability and additional needs.

  • Enable equitable education outcomes for children with disability and additional needs consistent with the five outcome areas of the Early Years Learning Framework (Identity, Connectedness, Wellbeing, Confident and Involved Learners, Communication).

  • Understand the external support options for children with disability and additional needs and how these supports can be used to complement the preschool program.

Our Education teams deliver this program.

A young boy and a woman are playing a board game at a table. The boy is holding a game piece, and the woman is leaning in, engaged in the game. There are other children in the background, one is playing at a different activity station. The table has various toys and snacks on it, and the setting appears to be a classroom or playroom.
