DIR FLOOR TIME

This is an evidence based therapy that focuses on educating the parents to best support their child’s emotional, social and intellectual development through play based interventions, involving the child’s interests and activities on the floor.

HYDROTHERAPY

Our Physiotherapist is trained to deliver hydrotherapy to children with a focus on building core strength, increasing range of motion and coordination. This service is provided at a local community centre and can be delivered within a group or individualised setting.

SOS AND FEEDING

Our centre uses a range of evidence based feeding treatment approaches to work with children with limited food choices within their diet. We work with infants and young children supporting development of their oral motor skills to allow a successful transition to drinking and eating a range of food textures safely. We work collaboratively with families to support mealtimes within the home environment. Our centre implements a multidisciplinary framework when addressing feeding concerns.

HANEN PROGRAMS

Our Speech Pathologists are trained to deliver Hanen programs including ‘It Takes Two To Talk’, ‘More than Words’, and ‘Talkability’. They focus on teaching parents strategies to support the child’s communication, interaction and social skills. Typically delivered in a group setting, these programs are evidenced based for children with developmental delays and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

THE WILBARGER PROTOCOL - BRUSHING

The Wilbarger Protocol, also referred to as brushing, is a program that involves brushing the body regularly throughout the day to assist children to regulate their sensory system. Occupational Therapists are required to be trained prior to teaching this protocol to ensure it is delivered correctly in a firm and particular manner. Some of the benefits reported include improved attention and ability to transition between activities throughout the day, as well as improved self-regulation and ability to settle.

PHYSICAL EQUIPMENT PRESCRIPTION

Our Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapist are able to prescribe equipment to facilitate a child’s participation in their environment and everyday activities. They liaise closely with a supplier to trial different equipment to ensure the needs of the child are met. This can include wheelchairs, standing frames, specialised strollers and alternate seating.

HOME MODIFICATIONS

Our Occupational Therapists are qualified to be able to complete assessments and funding applications for adapting a child’s home environment to best suit the child and family’s needs. They can support the family through all steps of the process including meeting with the builder and accessing funding to finance the modifications through the NDIS.
